Visual Diary Week13

On Wednesday, our team held a meeting. The order of presentation we going to pitch is:
Introduction and Summary: Dennis
3 Stakeholder role play: Leo Priyanka
2 Final solution: Milly and I
I am responsible for one solution: hold a welcome party to promote O'week. I assume what I put forward is feasible, because it can engage stakeholders and satisfy their need. Our stakeholders are students, student clubs and QUT. For students, they can have more chance to understand school and know other people. For student clubs, they can show their advantage and strength to attract more students join them.  As for QUT, it can engage more people and obtain more attendance and thereby more students enrolled. However,  QUT which hold Welcome party needs to spend lots of time and money to arrange and students also need some time to rehearse. Once it works, these activities may achieve a great outcome.  During this meeting, we put all team members' materials together to finish the script of presentation. On top of that, we discussed how to make the poster to show our iders. However, all team members were not familiar with google sites. So, we decided to try to learn how to use google sites and make a completed PowerPoint. If we still can not make a website, we use PPT to pitch. Nevertheless, I do not know how poster is added into google sites. So Milly made a generally structure of our PPT. And then we improve it.

Visual Diary Week 12

Week 12:

I did some research of other universities' orientation weeks. Like UQ, they have Events and Activities to meet people, build friendships and join clubs and societies. However, I found Qut's orientation has fewer activities for students to engage themselves. So, during the meeting, we generally decided three main stakeholders: Students , QUT, and student clubs. Qut think the orientation attendance of student is just only 80%, they want to more attendance and make more profits. Students clubs want more studens join in their club and makes clubs better and stronger. Moreover, students want to have fun and make more friends by orientation. To satisfy their needs, we selected two basic schemes. One of the ideas is holding a basketball match to strengthen the connection among students. And another is to hold a party to welcome new students to engage most QUT students. QUT hold the party, and is in charge of discipline and scheme of this party. Meanwhile, students and students club can put on performance like dancing, singing, magic and etc. Students perform a same play with others who in same faculty. Through this party, students can show their talents and have more communication with others and thereby they can engage it and have more chances to make friends. To audiences, they can have fun and enjoy the performance. For student clubs, they can show their club's merits and details to  attractive students to join. Furthermore, QUT advertise this show and provide this platform to attract more students to ensure they enrolled in QUT  and obtain great reputation and profits. In addition, we made a simple PowerPoint to demonstrate how to improve O weeks and how stakeholders thereby make more money.

Visual diary week11

Week 11:

After Wednesday's lecture, we held a meeting. As a result of choosing the topic of O week, we discussed the problem of Orientation. We put forward several suggestion such as short time, the structure be improved, less activity. In addition, we expanded the stakeholders like sponsors, shop managers,QUT university, and students. I think it is a good begining for design challenge 3 due to collaboration with each other. We assigned different task for everyone. LEO, MILLY and I are charge of providing feasible solution to problem by researching other university's orientation. Dennis and the Indian girl are responsible for keeping going expanding stakeholders and thinking deeply other problems. Afterwards, I considered Chinese university, I think in QUT's O week, QUT can provide the party to welcome new students, including talent show, which promote the communication among students. The services like restaurant, shop surrounding QUT can offer their things students to propogandize.

Design Challenge2 Week 5-10

WEEK 5:
28/03

In this tutorial, we were divided into different groups according to personality tests to design mobile application. We are all interested in Whatsapp. But in comparison, I prefer Wechat.  So we discussed Whatsapp and Wechat. Searching people nearby to make friends easily in Wechat. But Whatsapp did not have these functions. In conclusion, Each has its own merits, they have facilitated our lives a lot and send messages, send voice to other people simply, and freely.  However, they have many differences.Whatsapp can show if you are online and you can select your current status, while wechat can not.On the other hand, we can express and show our feelings by discovering in Wechat.

WEEK 6:
Our group has selected the concept of coupon as our design philosophy of mobile application. During the meeting with other team members,we named our application "leisure", which represents people can more enjoy their leisure time by using this app. In addition,we discussed the function and context of this application. I am mainly responsible for drawing homepage and nearby and I drew some drafts as follows.

There is an automatic orientation in the upper left-hand corner of the screen which conveniently helps users search discounts on the home page.Consumers could search what they need in the search box. And we can see the icon like mail. If you log on, you can receive  personal information. In the middle of the homepage, some big discounts which are different daily are presented. In addition, there is a small button in the left corner of the screen. When you click on it, many classifications will show:location, brand, restaurant, KTV, Cinema, Club, plane ticket, fitness, gas station, billiards and bookstore. The bookstore is specially designed for students. Because our target people are aged 12-28.Student just needs to type their student number and can get a big discount. I think our apps involve numerous services yet not more focus on one area. About my sketches, I think it is clear and concise about functions. Nevertheless, this design is not professional, general layout looks a little bit messy.

Week 7:
After Wednesday's lecture. we held a meeting about the flow of our presentation and we still miss one people, Singh. After discussion, I was in charge of introduction and provide the information of Homepage. Dennis was responsible for conclusion and the function: Nearby. Singh will talk about another function: my account. Manjeet will discuss final function: More. Later on, we roughly rehearsed. I found it has not a little bit coherent. In addition, I think I should add some content in Introduction such as the purpose and cause of designing Leisure in this app. Moreover, Dennis suggested I should introduce ther next team member after presenting my part. About other team members' pitch, I presume it is good as a whole, but the description of function is not comprehensive and specific. In terms of conclusion, I think Dennis should briefly summarize the functions and major content.

Week 8:
We got some useful feedback especially role assignment after pitching. But two Indian people still do not figure out what exactly our content and feature of apps even if we explained many times. So I only can keep improving our design with Dennis. By discussing with him, we adjusted the sequence of prototype in fluid. Login interface was put on the first screen. When Clicking on leisure, Login interface will show and then homepage appear. And we added overview of application's function in PPT. In the bottom right corner, the "more" button is too general ,so we left it out. When our classmates tested it, they assumed the most important problem was lacking of feedback of users.I think it is nessary for consumers to know clearly the condition of this service. Manjeet was charge of promoting and revising the app, but he missed the meeting and do nothing, We do not have enough time to change it. Thus we only kept it as the issue from users comments. About PPT, we all think it is too simple to discribe clearly our design. So Dennis with me thoroughly revised it. We added the purpose, target people, originality, and users feedback and competitor analysis  into it. And we decided to use a more visual tool to replace PPT to show what this design works.

Week 9:

During the meeting, we all agreed on using both PPT and Fluid as tool to pitch our design due to more interaction with audience. We specially discussed the structure of our storyboard.Dennis feel we should firstly talk about the every function of Leisure and then state users testing, while I think we can integrate how users utilize and test our design and the function into together. In the end, we decided to adopt my idea, because it is more concise. Because the Leisure is digital voucher. So we want to generate QR code. It is convient for users to use, because it just need to be scaned by counter. In addition, I think our target people is too general. So Dennis suggest our design can target at international student. Overseas students are unfamiliar with surroundings and do not know where the place is. Most improtantly, commodity price is high for them, so they want to get a discount. Leisure has the function of automatic orientation and GPS navigation, which can help them find the place. I made the structure of Fluid. And Dennis improved it. There are just 10 slides in Fluid for free, and thereby we only put major content in it. I think our prototype is not bad. However, it miss the improtant part: Users feedback. I intended to add it, but it has not enough time.Manjeet said he may not go to the tutorial for pitching. We three practiced seversal times. Due to lacking one person, we have to present his part. When it comes to my part, I think every point is included, but Dennis said I am not confident and should be more passionate. Furthermore, I assume some information are not details like the aim of our design. So I consider deeply.  And when I introduce other team members, I also briefly introduce what they will pitch. On the whole, Dennis and I are cooperated and shared opinion with each other every week. About other two Indian, they hardly show up and talk what they think. So I with Dennis did most works.

 Week 10:

This Monday, my critique patner Carman sent her journal and their team's PPT to me. Along with their performance last week, I analyse what she do. As a whole, their design, QUT social is pretty good. It is mainly designed to solve the inconvenience of communication and announcement among QUT students and staff. However, it lacks of some distint point to attract people like learning material give to dicusee. In addition, I assume reminding students of handing in homework before due day and send important notification is viable and essential in case they miss the due day or some improtant occasion, And their target people is exclusive for QUT students and staff, which is specific, but it is more focus on students. I assume it should add some special box for staff such as staff notification, professor guidance.About their user's feedback, they adopted and enhanced their design, They changed the color gradient and cut down unneccessary functions and streamlined, but I consider they should test more people, pick out some shortage most people put forware to amend. I think they can involve library like booking and renewing which are what students always do. As to their prototype, they draw some sketched and depicted the functions in paper and use Fluid to make their app lively. Moreover, they use PPT to show more details. I think it is comprehensive.By interviewing my partner, I think she highly cooperated with her team members. They held meetings every week to debate with each other. My partner made their PPT, and send to others to amend. So I think she is involved in her group.

Design Challenge1 Week 2-4

Week 2:

07/03

In the tutorial, we were divided into 3 groups to design angry birds. I am mainly in charge of designing landscape. I draw a sketch about landscape: the birds were sitting in the boat that flows on the ocean at sunset. If the birds do not knock over the pig, it will fall into the water.

12/03

But this landscape is ordinary and looks not good, so I draw another one. The background is that in the rainy night, Triones just appears in the sky. The birds are on the branch. Bending the branch can make the bird bounce off

Week 3

14/03

Today our team builded up the traversal mechanism and tested it successfully. Our launcher is pentagon to make sure have enough room to launch birds. In addition, we decided everyone’s different parts to present. I am primarily responsible for introduction.

Week 4

At noon, our team held a meeting. We reached an agreement to present our outcome on Friday by meeting. I am responsible for structure and point of PPT, and then send to Milly.  Then She will complete own slides for bird characters.

19/03

Today I refined my landscape. The sky was studded with twinkling stars. Triones just appeared in the sky and pig is in the pyramid container. Then I basically finished our PowerPoint.

21/03

We gave our presentation in this tutorial. On the whole, I was satisfied with our performance. Then we tested our traversal mechinism smoothly. The birds knocked over the pig successfully.
